Welcome to Seattle! PDF Print E-mail

Located on the Puget Sound of Washington, Seattle is a mecca for eco tourists, traders, and coffee hounds alike. Known as the home base of both Starbucks Coffee and Microsoft, Seattle offers treasures for both residents and tourists. The actual land on which Seattle is built has been inhabited on and off by Native Americans for thousands of years. The first American settlers were led by Arthur Denny, a man of relatively dubious character. In the mid 1800s, Denny settled on a swath of what would ultimately become Seattle and encouraged his group to build, even though the area was clearly a wetland. Sure enough, the city sunk soon thereafter and had to be rebuilt numerous times in the years to come. In fact, after experiencing a boom following the Gold Rush, Seattle literally burned to the ground because of poor city planning!

Today, however, Seattle stands strong. You can find a tremendous diversity of music, art, and parkland here. Seattle is an eminently walkable city. The moist climate indulges the natural vegetation, making Seattle a wonderful jumping off point for hiking, mountain biking, boating, and wilderness exploring. No trip to the city would be complete without a trip up the Space Needle, a giant structure built for the 1960 World Fair.
